Toyota of Danville tournament schedules set and field of teams finalized for SJO Christie Clinic Shootout

St. Joseph-Ogden High School is no stranger to hosting basketball tournaments and one-day events.


The trend will continue during the 2022-23 school year, with the school recently announcing the full schedules for the upcoming Toyota of Danville Classic and the Toyota of Danville Turkey Tournament. SJO will also host the Christie Clinic Shootout again next school year, with the list of boys’ basketball teams that will play in the one-day event also recently announced.

The second annual event will tip off the girls’ basketball season for four area teams, with the round-robin event happening Nov. 14, Nov. 15 and Nov. 17 later this year.
SJO, which advanced to the Sweet 16 in Class 2A last season, will also welcome in Champaign Centennial, Mahomet-Seymour and Tri-County to the Spartans’ main gym.
The tournament will feature JV and varsity games all three nights, with the JV games taking place in the auxiliary gym at SJO and the varsity games happening in the main gym at SJO.


SJO opens up its tournament stay at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 against Tri-County, which won a 1A regional title last season and reached the 1A state tournament in 2019 and 2020.
The Spartans will also play Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and end their tournament run at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 against Mahomet-Seymour. M-S won a school-record 30 games last season and advanced to the Elite Eight in 3A.

Toyota of Danville Classic
The eight-team boys’ basketball tournament at SJO will tip off on Monday, Nov. 28 and run the rest of the week, with the championship game set for Saturday, Dec. 3.
Along with SJO, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, Cissna Park, La Salette, Oakwood, Paxton-Buckley-Loda, Schlarman and Watseka will take part in the tournament.
The tournament is divided into two pools of four teams each. ALAH, Oakwood, PBL and Schlarman are in Pool A, with Cissna Park, La Salette, SJO and Watseka in Pool B.
SJO opens its tournament stay at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 against Cissna Park before playing La Salette at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and ending pool play at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 against Watseka.

Christie Clinic Shootout
The Christie Clinic Shootout is a boys’ basketball one-day event that will be held on Jan. 7, 2023. The event first started in 2015, and this upcoming shootout will be the seventh that SJO has hosted.
SJO will play in the shootout, one of 14 schools taking part in the day.
Matchups have not been determined yet for the seven-game schedule, but the shootout will feature a mix of large-school and small-school teams like in the past. The Christie Clinic Shootout will feature both JV and varsity teams, with the JV teams playing in the auxiliary gym at SJO and the varsity teams playing in the main gym.
The list of teams besides SJO, who feature D-I prospect in senior wing Ty Pence, that are set to play in the Christie Clinic Shootout are as follows: Addison Trail, Beecher, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Bloomington, Champaign Centennial, Kankakee, Mt. Zion, Monticello, Nashville, Newton, Normal U-High, Peoria Notre Dame and Unity. Monticello and Nashville played this past March for the Class 2A state championship, with Nashville winning 32-31, and Peoria Notre Dame features a Class of 2024 prospect in Cooper Koch, who holds an Illinois offer among several other notable D-I offers.
