December 21, 2025 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live Blog for April 27, 2021

I am here at St. Joseph Village Board.
No one else is here besides IT Guru Mike Sennert.
May 5 is bike to school day!

May is Public Safety and Awareness on Roadways month.

Bob Getting is now in attendance. He wants to build a taller fence. It’s six foot currently but he wants an 8 foot one to keep his kids balls in his own yard and not tearing up his neighbor’s flowers. #goodneighbor

A straw vote says sure!

Discussing the fireworks. The village is spending $7,500 for fireworker on August 14, 2021.

They are repairing the decorative street light near Subway that has been out for a while. They are discussing directional boring. It has been tabled

Outdoor dining time! Roch’s wants to do outdoor dining. Tami said it would be nice to discuss something more permanent so the tents won’t blow away. “What we have looked at and what he is thinking about, just for summer, is to put a permanent awning and build a parklet.” Tami has drawings. I think it will just be a more permanent situation instead of a tent. He can remove it for winter. The road will remain two way.

Discussing a street lamp that’s in the way. Seems like we have a lot of street lights that are in our way. 🙂

They are taking a recess to go look at a light pole. Art is concerned with the amount of light they are going to lose. I am not going with them because… it will take longer than five minutes. #ihavealaptopcanttravel

approved. It’s coming out.

Food truck time. THey are discussing where food trucks will be allowed. I think this will be kicked to May because they didn’t get the proposed ordinance early enough.

Discussing if it will take money away from snack bar at the park. Terri discussing how she is concerned with restaurants but is still going to support it, etc.

Allowing food trucks on Monday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tami is setting a deadline- no later than next week she wants changes, corrections, etc.

So the take away from this is that 1. Food trucks are happening. 2. The snow cone trailer is on private property so she can operate whenever she wants. 3. There are going to be certain spots and days for the trucks. #iwillgettheordinanceandbreakitdown 4. It will be finalized in May.

That was only the mayors desk. #iwillbehereuntil10

Village administrator update: Interviewed four last week. Will be bringing two in for in-person interviews.

Okay they are speeding thru now so I stand corrected. Wait I lied, we slowed back down to discuss drainage.
The motion is to approve the low big for drainage improvements on Meadow Circle.

Passing the policy on sexual harassment. #beadecenthumanbeing #dontharassanyone

They are honoring Joe Lierman because it is his last meeting. #SOB #heisagreatlawyer

Today is JOSEPH LIERMAN APPRECIATION DAY!

Tami is getting emotional talking about how much Joe means to her. Talking about her first few years as mayor and the challenges they faced. #legalissues

“I appreciated your calm words saying “It is OKAY Tami, we will get through this.”

Joe saying “It has been an honor and a privilege.”
