SJO competitive cheer team has successful season

What an accomplished 2024-2025 season the SJO competitive cheer team has had.

Starting in May 2024 this group of athletes practiced weekly, performed at football and basketball games, added two home SJO soccer games to their schedule all while holding practices to perfect their competition routine for the upcoming cheer competition season.

Led by Coaches Emily Spisok and Savannah Woods along with returning seniors Addison Funk, Samantha Uden, Ava Worley and Charley Wright the SJO cheer competition team landed 3rd place and qualified for ICCA State at their first competition. This was quite an accomplishment as they competed against twenty-one teams.

The team also included returning Sophomores Iris Davis, Leah Gaines, Faith Jackson, Peighton Reim, Ava Smoot; along with Freshmen Aubrey Matheny, Abby Reynolds, Alysson Robinson, Samantha Ryan, Addison Walsh, and Sorena Welsh.

The Varsity Cheerleading competition season started on December 7, 2024, ending this year for the team on February 1st, 2025, at the IHSA Sectionals. The team competed against over twenty schools from across Illinois in their sectionals division and fell short of qualifying for IHSA State. Throughout the course of 10 months, this year’s team received countless compliments at regular season games as well as at competitions from other coaches and squads as they displayed their abilities on the floor.
