McElroy-Smetzer resigns as village clerk

Tiffany McElroy-Smetzer has resigned as St. Joseph Village Clerk.

McElroy-Smetzer turned in a resignation letter to Mayor Tami Fruhling-Voges and Village Administrator Joe Hackney on Tuesday.

McElroy-Smetzer has served as the village clerk for 25 years. She also served on the St. Joseph Grade School Board for 16 years, the boards of Mt. Hope Cementary and Mt. Olive Cemetary, the St. Joseph Planning and Zoning Board for five years and the Champaign County Land Resource Management Plan Steering Committee.

“I am ready to retire from public service,” she said.

The village clerk is an appointed position that provides clerical, record-keeping and administrative functions to the board of trustees and the mayor. They also record and submit all village board meeting minutes.
