Ogden mayor resigns effective Nov. 1

Gabe Clements has resigned as the mayor of Ogden effective Nov. 1.

,
In his resignation letter to the Village Board, Clements said he will work over the next week to ensure that he has provided village employees with all the necessary information and equipment they need before he departs.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of our community over the last several years,” Clements said in an email to the board. “I am grateful to have served with all of you on the Village Board and I thank each of you for your hard work and supporting me during this transition. I am proud of the work that we have accomplished as a. Board .I wish the Village of Ogden Board the best in the future. Thank you to the citizens of Ogden for their support. I will never forget it.”

Clements will be moving out of the village and that is the reason for his resignation.

The Ogden Village Board will have to fill the position of mayor. The person selected will serve until the next election. The board will select one of its members to be acting mayor. In villages with a population of less than 5,000 if each of the trustees either declines to serve as acting president or is not elected by a majority of trustees the trustees may then elect any other village resident who is qualified to hold municipal office to serve as acting mayor.

When a trustee is appointed acting mayor, the trustee retains votes in their trustee capacity and no vacancy is created for their seat. They are not entitled to a second vote as acting mayor. The trustee can decide to resign as trustee in order to vote as mayor and veto.
The village board will next meet on Nov. 2.
