Lockhart help SJO soccer get off to solid start

Win, lose or draw.

Those are the three outcomes a high school soccer team can have, and those three different
results all transpired for the St. Joseph-Ogden High School boys’ soccer team during the first
week of the season.

SJO got its win with a 3-0 road victory against Argenta-Oreana on Aug. 23, got its loss in a 3-1
road setback against Uni High this past Thursday and got its draw via a 1-1 tie with
Oakwood/Salt Fork at home on Aug. 22 in its season opener.

Senior Jackson Greer led the way for SJO in its win against A-O, with Greer scoring two
second-half goals after both teams played through a scoreless first half. Freshman Ryker
Lockhart added the other goal for the Spartans (1-1-1), with senior Aiden Cromwell providing
two assists and sophomore Logan Mills handing out one assist. Senior Hunter Ketchum made
nine saves in net.

SJO led its opener against Oakwood/Salt Fork 1-0 at halftime thanks to a first-half goal by
Lockhart off an assist from Wilson, but the visiting Comets rallied in the second half to procure a
tie. Ketchum finished with 11 saves.

The first loss of the season for SJO happened in Urbana, but the Spartans led 1-0 early after a
goal by Cromwell, with Wilson supplying the assist. The match was tied at 1 at halftime before
Uni High came through with two goals in the second half for the final margin of victory. Ketchum
made 21 saves.

SJO will continue its string of road matches at 4:30 p.m. Monday by playing at Schlarman
before returning home to play Hoopeston Area at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday for its only two
matches this upcoming week.
