St. Joseph addresses brush pickup

The Village of St. Joseph is suspending brush pick up for a second month in a row.

The wet Spring weather has prevented the village from burning the brush that has already been picked up and the village burn site is full.

To alleviate some of the backlogged brush, the Village of St. Joseph has entered into a contract with Mashburn Rental for 30 days. The contract is not to exceed $6,700.

The machine the village is renting will burn a portion of the backlogged yard waste at the dump site located along Rt. 150.

The village will discuss purchasing the equipment after they see how effective it is.

The purchase price of the equipment is $34, 350 and the rental price would be applied towards the purchase cost.

Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency has contacted the village regarding the burning on the site. There are many requirements that the village must comply with to continue burning. The Buildings and Grounds Committee is looking into several issues regarding the burn site.

These include illegal dumping and resulting penalties, penalties if the rules for brush pickup are not followed and security cameras and signs at the dump.
