‘I have absolutely loved portraying her’

Sophia McDade loves everything about the Addams Family production.

The senior, who is acting in her second show with the St. Joseph-Ogden Drama Department, plays Grandma Addams.

“She is just a crazy old lady along for the ride, no matter what happens on the journey,” McDade said.

McDade and a cast of dozens will bring the altogether ooky family to life during the final show of the production today at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.

Tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for students and $7 for seniors and kids under 12 at the door.

McDade said she would describe Grandma Addams as the strangest family member.

“She has such a unique energy and I have absolutely loved portraying her over the past two months,” she said. “I’m sad to have to part with her soon.”

The most challenging part of the production for McDade has been channeling accurate energy for her character.
.
“Memorizing her lines has been relatively easy, but doing it with a proper attitude has been a new challenge for my admittedly short acting career,” McDade said.

Her favorite part has been acting alongside her friends. She had previously worked on the technical crew for three years.

“I don’t regret a thing and I love everything about the show,” she said.

McDade said the production has something for everyone.

“There’s true love, flying weapons, reanimated dead people, and a palpable amount of sarcasm constantly floating in the air,” she said “It’s an incredible show with an incredible cast of talented people that I am honored to call my friends, and I’m so glad to be able to share it with everyone who attends.”
