Bree Trimble Working Out With Siblings and Father

Like all athletes, Bree Trimble plans on coming back to the Parkland College Cobra women’s basketball team as a bigger, stronger, faster, more educated player.

Unlike most players, she has has help. Lots of help.

“My father and my two brothers have been helping me during this pandemic,’ said the former St. Joseph-Ogden Spartan, who earned all-state status as a high school senior. “In the morning, we hit the gymnasium and shoot or workout. In the afternoon, we lift weights.”

Trimble has a good starting point. As a Cobra freshman, she would play in all 31 games and make 28 starts. The freshman player, who averaged 24.1 minutes per game, would help Parkland finish 24-7 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference.

“It took me a little bit to adjust from high school to college,” said Trimble. “The sophomore women helped me out a great deal. They helped us understand and learn the new plays and drills. They were more than just teammates and that was very helpful to the younger players. When I came in, I was amazed at how quick everyone was. Those women can move so quick.”

Trimble would score 261 points and pull down 127 rebounds in her first year as a Cobra. In addition to her 8.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, she also had 44 assists, 33 steals and three blocked shots. The 5-foot-9 freshman forward would hit over 40 percent of her shots from the field and over 70 percent of her shots from the free throw line. She drained 102-of-246 from the floor, a percentage of 41.5 percent, and 21-of-29 from the charity stripe, a percentage of 72.4 percent. She would almost hit 40 percent from beyond the arc as well, nailing 36-of-93 from three-point land, a percentage of 38.7 percent.

The freshman forward scored in double figures at total of 14 times during her freshman season. The Lady Cobras had two athletes that averaged in double figures this year. One of them, Peyton Crowe, who averaged 10.5 points per game, is slated to return for her sophomore year. She, like Trimble, did her prep work at St. Joseph Ogden. Crowe was one of two players to start every game for the Cobras. They also return the woman that pulled down 5.6 rebounds per game (Naomi McDaniel) and Gema Alegre, who doled out 3.5 assists per game.

“Next year we want to go to the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Nationals,” said Trimble. “High school taught me to never give up. It never got any better this year than defeating Lincoln Land Community College on our home court. But, we also lost to Lake Land College by 20 points on our home floor, which was the low point for me at least.”

The daughter of Thad and Julie Trimble of St. Joseph is working on getting her core classes out of the way at Parkland. Trimble, who scored the third most points in Lady Spartan history with 1,642 points, helped SJO take third in the state in the Illinois High School Association Class 2A State Finals in 2019. She was named to two all-state teams as a senior and one all-state team as a junior.
