January 20, 2026 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live at St. Joseph Village Board, Oct. 14, 2025

There is a lot on the agenda tonight.

Before the meeting Mayor Page briefly asked what he should be for the Halloween Parade. Any ideas?

They are approving the Christmas Parade Special event permit.
They are listening to a proposal from Troop 2191 for a community garden.
Discussing modification to the village code to establish a fee for the P-3 Liquor license.
They are authorizing a gift agreement for the community building.
They are discussing a full membership with experience Champaign-Urbana.
And they are discussing the Safe Roads to School Grant. #onedaytherewillbeasidewalkonprospect.

They are also discussing selling 14 acres for development. I think it’s the townhouses by the sewer plant.

Girl Scouts are up. It’s the same troop that gifted the community the Christmas tree.

They saw a need for food in the community due to the long lines at Feed the Need.

Here is their proposal :

The village is voting to agree to phase one. Phase two, with who actually has to tend the garden, has yet to be agreed to.

Moving on to liquor license fees.

They aren’t changing The ordinance just adding an application fee of $1,000. So Jack Flash has to pay $1,000 to get that license.

Page is pulling the gift agreement for the Community Building. “I want to pull that until we hammer out more details.”

Experience Champaign-Urbana Tourism Industry Partner. They agreed to three years agreeing to big events. Jim wants to rejoin “$700 isn’t that much.” He thinks commercial growth and activities and be able to say they are a member.

Art thinks the chamber should be more active in promoting events to visit Champaign County. The chamber rep at the meeting (ME) said that we aren’t a member of visit Champaign county or whatever they are called. They are a member of the Chamber. And when I have sent stuff to them they don’t do anything with it.

At any rate, it’s tabled.

Talking about the sidewalks. The grant application last year was very good but they didn’t get it. So they are trying again. #onedayiwillhaveasidewalk

Town homes near the sewer plant time. Comes off Evergreen, curves to the north. 19 units. Last time I saw an example, they were lovely. Selling 14 acres.

They sold it. Town homes are coming to town.

meeeting is over.
