SJO to host Toyota of Danville Classic starting on Tuesday

The St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ basketball program is no stranger to having tournaments in its own gym.
This season is no different.

The Spartans will host the eight-team Toyota of Danville Classic that starts on Tuesday and runs through Saturday.

The tournament is broken up into two pools and will feature three games every night on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before four games conclude the tournament on Saturday.

The host Spartans are in Pool B along with Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, Charleston and Watseka. Pool A consists of Cissna Park, Oakwood, Paxton-Buckley-Loda and St. Teresa.

This tournament also doubles as the start of SJO’s season, with the Spartans tipping off against ALAH at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in their season opener. SJO returns to the court at 5 p.m. Thursday against Watseka and concludes pool play at 8 p.m. on Friday against Charleston.

The tournament tips off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday with Cissna Park playing PBL and after SJO’s game against ALAH, St. Teresa meets Oakwood at 8 p.m. to cap the first night of the tournament.

SJO doesn’t play on Wednesday night, with Watseka against Charleston starting the night at 5 p.m. PBL plays St. Teresa at 6:30 p.m. and Oakwood tips off against Cissna Park at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, SJO-Watseka tip off the night’s action at 5 p.m., followed by Charleston against ALAH at 6:30 p.m. and Oakwood against PBL at 8 p.m.

The final night of pool play on Friday sees Cissna Park against St. Teresa at 5 p.m., ALAH against Watseka at 6:30 p.m. and SJO against Charleston at 8 p.m.

How teams finish in their respective pools will determine who plays when on the final day of the tournament on Saturday. The seventh-place game tips off at 2 p.m., followed by the fifth-place game at 3:30 p.m., the third-place game at 5 p.m. and the championship game at 6:30 p.m.
