Sparty party: A daily roundup of SJO varsity sports (Sept. 17, 2026)


The St. Joseph-Ogden volleyball team is still riding a win streak, while the SJO boys’ golf team
teed off in Monticello. Here is a quick rundown of what happened Wednesday with the Spartans:

In volleyball
Smith, Learned spark Spartans


The win streak is now at five for St. Joseph-Ogden after the Spartans traveled to Danville on
Wednesday night and swept the host Vikings 25-14, 25-21 in a nonconference match.

SJO is now at 11-4 on the season after its third win in as many days this week.

Junior Vivian Smith led the offensive production with a team-high six kills, while senior Addi
Stevens wasn’t far behind with five kills.

Seniors Hadley McDonald and Emerson Williams each finished with three kills, while junior Raegan Wheatley (two kills) and junior Lyla Patton (one kill) also chipped in.


Senior Alivia Learned dished out 11 assists and junior Megan Kearney handed out six assists,
while McDonald and Williams each served one ace. Williams made a team-high five digs, while
Junior Ava Alexander, Kearney and Learned each had four digs.

The Spartans have the weekend off before returning home to face Marshall at 7 p.m. next
Monday in a nonconference match.

In golf
Spartans fall to Sages

Host Monticello posted a team score of 153 in a dual match against SJO, with the Spartans
carding a team score of 188 on Wednesday at Monticello Golf Club.

Senior Garrett Loschen shot a team-low 43 to lead SJO, while senior Tripp Palmer had a 47.
Senior Finn Miller and freshman Noah Resendiz each shot a 49 to round out the Spartans’ team
score.

SJO is set to return to the course on Saturday for the Paris Invitational that tees off at 10 a.m. at
Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Paris.

What’s on tap
The SJO boys’ soccer team is set to host Bloomington Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on
Thursday in its Illini Prairie Conference opener at Dick Duval Field in St. Joseph. The Spartans are 7-2 on the season and have won consecutive matches against Bismarck-Henning/Rossville- Alvin and Blue Ridge. The SJO girls’ tennis team is slated to play Pontiac in a dual match at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana. On Friday, the SJO football team
(4-0) hosts Rantoul (0-4) at 7 p.m. at Dick Duval Field in the Spartans’ homecoming game.
