5 questions with Paige Siegmund

Paige Siegmund plays Mal in St. Joseph-Ogden’s “The Descendents”. We asked Paige five questions before the final show today at 2 p.m. Here are the answers.

Describe Mal.
Mal is the daughter of Maleficent, the evil fairy from Sleeping Beauty. She inherited her mother’s wits, for sure, but hates living in her shadow. She’s conflicted between following her imposing mother’s footsteps and finding her own path, with her own people.

Was it challenging doing a play that people are so familiar with?
Yes, it’s been interesting trying to balance staying true to the movies and developing the character on my own. It was amazing to perform an abridged version for the grade school and having kids recognize me, though. To every little kid who I passed in the hallway that said “Hi Mal!!”, please know that I adore you.

What was the most challenging part of the production?
I think the hardest part has been finding Mal’s character and figuring out how she interacts with others.

What was your favorite part?
My favorite part is absolutely Mal’s duet with Ben. It is so, so much fun to sing, even if it rips my heart out every time.

What can people expect from the play?
You can expect a lot of Disney, family-friendly fun! With a cast of energetic and colorful characters, the show really comes alive.
