January 23, 2026 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live at St. Joseph Village Board, Nov. 8, 2022

Happy Election Day! There are a lot of people here tonight and I am not sure why.

While we wait, thanks to MX Electric for sponsoring our live blogs.

Special presentation time.

The mayor proclaimed today Buddy Wilson day. I’ll post the video. They gave him the sign that was hanging in the village to honor him and his service in the US Army.

Joe told them it’s a political decision where the board wants to keep the village money and two of the board members are saying “it’s not political, it’s business.”

Busey has a better rate for the investments that are coming due.

Treasurer Debbie Routh saying there is a large disparity between Busey and local banks so she recommends going with Busey.

Jayne DeLuce is here to tell us why Visit Champaign County is awesome. She brought the board popcorn.

Alleyway discussion with the high school. Ameren won’t give up it’s right of way unless the school pays to relocate the utilities.

So they are discussing insurance. And Max Painter wants to switch to Loman Ray because it is local but Terri is pointing out they just switched their investments to Busey which wasn’t local. It would cost more money to go to Loman Ray, Joe just clarified.

It is going to be kinda nuts if they decide to go Loman Ray just because it’s down the road but moved their money from the banks here. This is the village’s insurance. Not the insurance for staff.

They are discussing valuations for village property, ie. The sewer plant.

They are staying with IML insurance.

Discussing strategic plan bid approval.

Discussing business grant program that the village wants to start. They are cautiously throwing around the idea of making a business district. #towncenteranyone #peoplewillfreakout

This is an ordinance where if people owe a couple hundred of dollars in a sewer bills, they won’t be able to apply for permits, ect. until it’s paid off. It’s just another tool to get people to pay. they approved it. So pay your sewer bill. I just did. #late #oops.

The village would really love people to sign up for the e-billing for sewer. They may do a raffle to encourage people to sign up. The winners could get $50 sewer credits. Some trustees saying they should bill people who won’t do paperless billing.

Mayor discussing how awesome the Halloween Parade was. #truestory #itssocute

Meeting over.
