SJO girls’ tennis delivers historic win

The newest sport at St. Joseph-Ogden High School made a bit of history on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans’ girls’ tennis team traveled to Blair Park in Urbana and came away with a 6-3 victory against Urbana for the first win in program history.

SJO relied on strong doubles play to produce the win, sweeping all three matches. Hope Rajlich and Kelsey Martlage won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Allison Kearney and Angie Chahine won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and Katie McDermott and Jacey Lewis won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Claire Huffman earned an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot, with Abbey Dow at No. 2 winning 8-6 and Ashlyn Lannert at No. 6 cruising to an 8-1 win.

The Spartans will try to make it two wins in a row when they travel to play at St. Teresa at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday
