Help the Forest Preserve District

Garlic mustard is beginning to grow and the Forest Preserve District could use your help to remove it. It is an invasive species that will take over an area and threaten the native plant life around it. Removing garlic mustard is a great reason to get outdoors, breathe some fresh air and help us in our mission to promote native biodiversity.

If you want to help independently, you can bring your own bag or bucket to pull and carry out this invasive species. When removing garlic mustard, you should place your hand as close to the base of the plant as possible and pull out the plant, including the entire root.

Once you pull garlic mustard, it must be removed from the area. This plant will continue to grow and produce seed even after pulled out of the ground! You can drop off whatever you have picked at our designated burn piles or at the maintenance shops.

Click here to see maps of each preserve with highlighted locations that need work.

If you are not already a volunteer, please fill out this waiver.

A single plant can produce up to 1000 seeds! So even removing one plant is tremendously important.
