Brush pickup is being suspended within the village of St. Joseph.
Buildings and Grounds Chairperson Roy McCarty said the village will not be picking up brush during the month of May for multiple reasons.
The village dump site along Rt. 150 is full.
The wet Spring weather has prevented the village from burning the brush that has already been picked up.
Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency has contacted the village regarding the burning on the site. There are many requirements that the village must comply with to continue burning.
The village has contacted BTI Brush Company regarding burning the brush at the site. The company would charge the village $5,700 to burn 300 cubic yards over two days. The board voted to enter into a contract with the company.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee is looking into several issues regarding the burn site. These include illegal dumping and resulting penalties, penalties if the rules for brush pickup are not followed and security cameras and signs at the dump.
