Know what’s on your ballot

ADVISORY QUESTIONS

On the ballot on Nov. 5, voters in Champaign will vote on three state wide advisory questions.
The first is called the election worker protection and candidate accountability referendum.
The question states, “Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, state or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with an election worker’s official duties?” The voters will vote yes or no.
The second advisory question deals with property tax relief and states:
“Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1,000,000 for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief?” Voters will vote yes or no.
The third deals with assisted reproductive health.
The questions states: “Should all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including, but not limited to, in vitro fertilization, be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits, without limitation on the number of treatments?” Voters will vote yes or no.

PRESIDENT
Voters will vote for president. Candidates include Former President Donald J. Trump with running mate JD Vance, Vice President Kamala Harris with running mate Tim Walz and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with running mate Nicole Shanahan.

15TH DISTRICT
In the Fifteenth Congressional District Congresswoman Mary Miller is running unopposed.

102nd REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT
In the 102nd Representative District Rep. Adam Niemerg is running unopposed.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY POSITIONS
AUDITOR
Democrat George Danos is running against Alan Anderson for Champaign County Auditor.

CORONER
Republican Steve Thunk is running against Democrat Laurie Brauer for Champaign County Coroner.

CIRCUIT CLERK
Democrat Susan W. McGrath is running unopposed.

STATE’S ATTORNEY
Democrat Julia Reitz is running unopposed.

COUNTY BOARD DISTRICT 3
Republican John Farney is running for Champaign County Board District 3.

JUDICIAL CANDIATES
The following judges are asking to be retained:

Thomas E. Griffith
Robert Webber
Randy Rosenbaum
Jeremy Richey

PUBLIC QUESTIONS
Proposition to approve a special county retailers’ occupation tax for public safety.
The question reads: To pay for public safety purposes, shall Champaign County be authorized to impose an increase on its share of local sales tax by one quarter percent? Voters will vote yes or no.

Eliminate the office of county auditor.
The question reads: Shall the office of Champaign County Auditor be eliminated effective Dec, 1, 2024. Voters will vote yes or no.
