April 11, 2026 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live at St. Joseph Village Board on Feb. 24, 2026

I am here so you don’t have to be.

I feel like this will be a short meeting.

The mayor is looking for participants for the fall festival committee. Mike Peters, who previously as was president of the fall festival committee, is retiring. There are usually five or six members. I am on the committee so if you have any questions shoot me a message.

Art is asking if anyone from the meeting two weeks ago came in and talked to the mayor and if they had any ideas about what to do out there. Mayor said he has a conversation with one resident.

Art also asking if Joe found out where Drainage District 6 gets their money. Joe said he has sent them a request for information. I am not sure what he’s asking about because 1. they are a taxing body. 2. They are considered an independent local government entity.

The board approved placement of a community garden at Hackler Park by the girl scouts.

They are discussing selling surplus equipment.

They are discussing waiving fees of preliminary plat process and fees for Shady Creek Subdivision. These are the duplexes over by the sewer plant.

Art bringing up the community center again. “It is supposed to fund itself, so are we going to make a resolution saying its supposed to be self-sustaining. It is something we need to consider. I don’t foresee it being self-sustaining.”

Art saying the parks are an unfunded mandate because they used money from general corp to supplement. That’s not what an unfunded mandate is but his point is that they have used money for the parks that they could have used on something else.

They are going into executive session.
