SJO boys’ basketball to host 14-team Christie Clinic Shootout on Saturday

An annual staple on the high school boys’ basketball calendar is back in St. Joseph again this year.
The Christie Clinic Shootout will take place all day and into the night this Saturday at St. Joseph-Ogden High School, with 14 teams coming to town for seven games.


The event, which started in 2018 and has been held every year except 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will bring in teams from all corners of the state to St. Joseph.


The first game of the shootout tips off at 11 a.m. between Streator and Normal West, before Carterville plays Normal U-High at 12:30 p.m.


The 2 p.m. game features Monticello against New Berlin, while Belleville West plays Bradley-Bourbonnais at 3:30 p.m.


Three games round out the evening slate, with Unity taking on Quincy Notre Dame at 5 p.m., SJO hosting Pinckneyville at 6:30 p.m. and Washington playing Mt. Zion at 8 p.m. to conclude the shootout.

Of the 14 teams playing at SJO, three are ranked in the latest Associated Press statewide rankings. Mt. Zion is 15-0 and ranked fifth in the Class 3A poll, Unity is 13-0 and ranked second in the Class 2A poll and SJO is 13-2 and ranked eighth in the Class 2A poll.


All 14 teams will also have their junior varsity teams playing at the shootout, with Streator-Normal West tipping off the JV portion of the shootout at 9 a.m. in the SJO practice gym. The rest of the JV schedule features Carterville-Normal U-High at 10:30 a.m., New Berlin-Monticello at noon, Belleville West-Bradley-Bourbonnais at 1:30 p.m., Unity-Quincy Notre Dame at 3 p.m., SJO-Pinckeyville at 4:30 p.m. and Washington-Mt. Zion at 6 p.m.


Admission for the Christie Clinic Shootout is $8 for adults and $5 for students.
