Pence, Beyers keep SJO boys’ basketball unbeaten

Five games in, five wins.

The St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ basketball team is still unbeaten this season after an impressive stretch of play in the past week, picking up three wins in five days and setting up a showdown with Prairie Central at 7 p.m. Friday in Fairbury.

The Spartan defeated Pontiac 59-48 at home on Tuesday night in Illini Prairie Conference action, which was preceded by a 53-43 win at nonconference foe Robinson last Saturday and a 58-51 win at Unity last Friday in Illini Prairie play.

Ty Pence kept up his impressive performance this season, leading the Spartans (5-0, 3-0 Illini Prairie) in scoring in all three games. Pence registered 27 points in the win against Pontiac, with Andrew Beyers adding 12 points.

Pence led the way against Robinson with 16 points, while Evan Ingram contributed 13 points and Beyers tossed in 12 points.
Pence finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds against Unity.

Ingram added 12 points and Jackson Rydell chipped in nine points.

After Friday night’s game at Prairie Central, SJO will have a quick turnaround before another road trip to play at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Paxton-Buckley-Loda in nonconference action.
