Festival committee cancels many events

The St. Joseph Community Festival will look a little different this year.

Due to COVID-19, the three day festival is being changed.

The St. Joseph Community Festival Committee consulted with the American Legion, the village and the carnival operators before deciding to cancel most of the events for the 2020 festival.

The committee has given the go head to four events.

These include the antique lawn mower tractor pulls on Aug. 1 at 12 p.m. at the Sports Complex, the annual St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District Pancake Breakfast on Aug 8 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., a community parade at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 and fireworks on Aug. 8 at dusk.

“We figured something would be better than nothing,” said committee member Josh Reese. “We just couldn’t guarantee we could get food permits approved out there and rides needing to be sanitized after every round would take forever and large groups cramped into a small area waiting on those rides wouldn’t be good.”

The committee is already planning the 2021 festival.
