Reading events to take place this weekend

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess!

Numerous places are holding Read Across America events this weekend to correlate with the author’s birthday on March 2.

The Urbana Park District will host more than 40 businesses and organizations at Lincoln Square Mall to celebrate literacy from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. There will be hands-on activities, story-tellers, costumed characters, a special parent and toddler area, local celebrity greeters, and books read in multiple languages. The first 1,000 children who attend will receive a free bag and a book of their choice.

From 11 a.m. to noon Barnes and Noble will host a Dr. Suess themed story time and activity.

From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Target will host giveaways, activities and a Dr. Suess read-along.
