Family Fun Guide March 1-3

Each week we provide a list of some fun activities to do with your family. Here are this weekend’s events.

March 1
Backyard Birders
10 a.m.
Homer Lake Interpretive Center

This program is for preschoolers ages 2-6 to learn as they play in nature! For the first program of 2019, kids will learn all about the birds they can find right in their backyard! Dress up like a bird, practice bird calls, and make a bird feeder to take home! This is a chance for parents/guardians to engage with children as they experience the natural world. Dress for the weather, as we may go for a short hike. Join us on at Homer Lake on the first Friday of each month for a new topic! FREE. The Little Mermaid
March 1 at 7 p.m.
March 2 at 10 am.
March 3 @ 4 p.m.
Orpheum Children’s Science Museum
346 N. Neil Street, Champaign


Take the entire family to see The Little Mermaid. The Champaign-Urbana Junior Woman’s Club will perform the play at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum, 346 N Neil St, Champaign. 

Tickets will be $8 at the door for 12 and under, $10 for all others.

Proceeds from this event will support various community agencies and projects in Champaign County.

Free Kids Movie
10 a.m.
Savoy 16


A Free Movie will be shown at the Savoy 16 starting at 10 a.m. The movie is free if you are a rewards member. $1 for everyone else. This week at 10 a.m. the theater is showing Teen Titans Go.

March 2
Maple Sugar Days
10 a.m.
Homer Lake Interpretive Center

Did you know that the Homer Lake Forest Preserve has a 200 year-old Sugar Maple Grove? People have been tapping sugar maple trees to make sugar and syrup for centuries, and now you can, too! Explore the science and the history behind maple sugaring, learn how to do it yourself, and even take home a sample of syrup made from our very own trees. All ages. $5 per person. Space is limited.
