Gallo Dance Company to perform at Harlem Globetrotters game

The Gallo Dance Company dancers will be taking a very large stage on Friday.

The dancers will be performing during the pre-game and halftime of the Harlem Globetrotters game on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at the State Farm Center. Tickets are still available.

GDC coach Sophia Gallo said the company was approached in 2018 about performing at their event at the State Farm Center. The relationship has continued.

“This will be our third year performing,” Gallo said. “Our competition season officially begins next month, so it is a great opportunity for the girls to perform in front of a large audience as a way to prepare for their upcoming performances on stage.”

Gallo said the dancers work very hard in the studio perfecting their competition routines.

“We are extremely proud of their progress this season and can’t wait to watch their hard work pay off,” she said. “We love performing at this event and are so excited to be back on the court at the State Farm Center.”

Gallo said the company loves performing at the State Farm Center.

“It is really an incredible feeling and we are so thankful for the opportunity,” she said. “The Globetrotters always put on an entertaining show and and we love being a part of the fun atmosphere.”

While the dance company has 54 members only 37 will be performing during the Globetrotters event. The remainder will be performing in other competitions this weekend. All 54 will perform during the half time of the Feb. 24 Illinois basketball game.

Gallo said more than 250 area residents have already purchased their tickets for the event on Friday through the company’s group purchasing.

“The Harlem Globetrotters are amazing athletes and entertainers,” she said. “They put on a show that all ages can enjoy and we are excited to have over 250 local spectators coming to support the girls.”
