Christie Clinic Shootout in St. Joseph still on, but SJO won’t play

The heavy rainfall that hit St. Joseph on Friday night and into Saturday morning, along with the potential for severe weather in northern Illinois, has affected the schedule of the third annual Christie Clinic Shootout that St. Joseph-Ogden High School will host on Saturday.

Five games are still slated to take place, but none will feature the host Spartans, according to a tweet from the SJO boys’ basketball Twitter account.

SJO (10-4) was slated to play Farmington at 8 p.m. on Saturday to close out the event and that game was bumped up to 2 p.m. on Saturday after poor weather meant Rich Central couldn’t make it to St. Joseph for its 2 p.m. game against Champaign Central.
But a few minutes later, a change was made and the Spartans’ game against Farmington was canceled.

Instead of 14 teams and seven games, the Christie Clinic Shootout will feature 10 teams and five games.

Mahomet-Seymour opens up against Crete-Monee at 11 a.m., followed by Danville against Kankakee at 12:30 p.m., Cissna Park against Monticello at 3:30 p.m., Pleasant Plains against La Salette at 5 p.m. and Maine South against Normal Community at 6:30 p.m.

SJO won its first two games in January, defeating Cissna Park 68-51 at home on Jan. 3 and following that performance up with a 50-22 win against Williamsville at home this past Tuesday. Four Spartans reached double figures in the win against Cissna Park, with Chance Izard scoring 18 points, Ty Pence adding 13 points, Payton Cain contributing 12 points and Payton Grimsley tossing in 12 points.

Izard (21 points) and Pence (15 points) led the way offensively in the win against Williamsville.

SJO is slated to get back on the court at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Paxton-Buckley-Loda in a nonconference game before making a trip to Teutopolis next Friday in another quality nonconference game.
