May 13, 2026 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live at St. Joseph Village Board, May 12, 2026

I was late but they paid the bills. Approved the treasurer’s report. They also did an investment recommendation.

Kiwanis Club is here making a presentation.
They need 15 people to have a club. If you want information I can get you the contact information.

Shout out to the St. Joseph DQ for being awesome. Also, St. Joseph Auto. They are just two businesses in St. Joseph I’ve had great experiences with this week.

Now is Reg Ankrom with SIMEC, INC. for electrical Aggregation.
FUN FACT: Reg writes historical stories for the paper in Quincy.

Here’s the SIMEC webpage.
Ankrom just said that the second tower at Clinton is going to open again but that energy is promised to META for AI.

Here is an article about that. I hadn’t heard that.

OK here’s about electrical Aggregation. The city has contracted with SIMEC for them to offer citizens a rate that’s different than AMEREN. You will get a letter/postcard in the mail that will explain how you can opt out if you want to do that.

St. Joseph has been doing this for about 10 years. Electrical aggregation is a program where local governments combine the electric demand of residents and small businesses to negotiate lower, fixed-rate electricity supply contracts. It aims to reduce costs and provide price stability against utility rate volatility, while allowing residents to opt out and stay with their default provider.

Art is asking about clean energy right now.

The board has entered into a TIF agreement with Joel Wallace. The agreement is for the property at 506 Fourth Ct., St. Joseph.

“The Parties have agreed that the Village shall reimburse the Developer Fifty Percent
(50%) of the annual “net” incremental increase in real estate tax revenues derived from the Developer’s
Project for reimbursement of the Developer’s Estimated TIF Eligible Project Costs as set forth in
Exhibit 1 attached hereto, commencing with tax year 2027 payable 2028 real estate tax increment
generated by the Project and continuing through the life of the TIF District or upon the Developer’s
receipt of the maximum reimbursement amount of Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars and No Cents.”

He’s going to build a single family home on the property FYI.

The board approved a capital contribution letter of intent to CCES. It’s a project where you can take chemicals, IE paint. It isn’t open yet as they are still collecting funds.

They approved a ROW permit for Campus Communications Group. Basically, its so the village can keep a tighter control over the contractors.

The meeting is adjourned.
