Get to know Alicia Maxey

Alicia is running for St. Joseph-Ogden School Board.

What motivated you to run for school board?
I have lived in the community of St Joseph nearly all of my adult life. I also worked 19 years in the schools as their SRO before retiring in 2020. I truly enjoy putting back into the community I love. The leap to SJO school board was an easy decision. It is an awesome school, and I truly believe our district is the best around.  Many of my friends and family encouraged me to put back and SJO is a great fit.

What are your short term goals for the district?
In the short term,  I hope to help our administration and fellow board members to finish the projects we have started, while being fiscally responsible with our tax payers dollars.

What are your long term goals?
I hope to be a part of securing the future for our students, teachers and the school.
This goal encompasses not only student safety and protection, but also helping our students be the best they can be. Continuing to provide a safe, secure learning environment with teachers who care for our children as much as I do.

Where would you like to see the district at in ten years?
I would like to see our school district continue to provide the tools for our children to be successful in all aspects of life. While insuring the children are prepared for the future I hope to help prepare the district for the future as well.

What Is one thing you would change about the schools in St. Joseph?
Although it will likely never happen I wish we were all one district instead of two/three including PVO.

What are the most pressing issues facing the district?
As a whole we are a very blessed school district. Issues we face together are the rising prices for everything and trying to make the dollars stretch as best we can.

What is the best thing about the school in St. Joseph?
Wow, I would say our students are our best representatives as to why our school is the best. In addition to the students we have a wonderful staff of teachers, administrators and we have a great group of people on the school board.

Why should people vote for you?
I hope people in our community vote for me because I love our community, and our children. My goals are to help protect them by giving them a safe and secure learning environment. I want to help make sure our children all have amazing memories in high school, while building life long friendships.

How will you make sure you work for the public and are accessible to your constituents?
I have been a public servant for almost 30 years. I have dedicated my career and now retirement to paying it forward for our village and all the wonderful children. Anyone who wants to contact me can email me through the high school, find me on Facebook or stop me when I’m out and about in church or other places within our community. I am blessed to be a part of SJO and I hope to continue representing my constituents through another term.
