January 19, 2026 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live at St. Joseph Village Board, June 11, 2024

My computer is back in action. The last meeting in May it had some technical issues.
On the agenda tonight: Not a whole lot. #iprobablyjustjinxedit

Shout out to Ashley York for an amazing Summer Kick-off event on Saturday. #shesawesome

The mayor is honoring the village gardeners. They are retiring. (So those lovely plants on your light posts and islands probably will not happen anymore.) “People compliment the baskets and the islands all the time.”

This is so true. I have had other villages ask me who does St. Joseph’s flowers since they are so nice.

Trustee Page is motioning for the Champaign County Balloon Festival Permit be taken off the consent agenda and moved to new business. #thatmeansshewantstotalkaboutit

The consent agenda was approved. So 4th of July parade, 5K , pickleball tournament special event permit approved. Bills paid in the amount of $32,286. 57.

They approved the resolution to execute notice of intent to award for Elm and Monroe Street sanitary Sewer Replacement Project to Stark for $4,901,148.00

They voted to allocate certain revenue sources to Parks and Rec. Money the village gets from video gambling and marijuana tax will be used to fund the parks and rec. Terri Cummings voted no.

Angela is bringing up concerns with the Balloon festival on the soccer fields. Angela is concerned the fields will be tore up after the village has spend a lot of money to maintain the fields.

Max saying it would be neat for the community.

Max is making a motion to donate to the festival and host it. Page, Wolfersberger and Vallee voted no so the motion failed.

Wolfersberger motioned to host the festival without the donation. It passed.

Joe giving updates: Riefsteck has taken photos of the church/new village hall to move forward with the process. Joe is going to organize tours of the waste water treatment plant and its progress. It will also allow the trustees to get a feel for what the operators do daily.

Mayor updates: Asking trustees if they are interested in having any further discussions regarding universal trash haulers. Tami is saying that since it was such a “hot item” when the Appl’s retired that she doesn’t really want to get involved or deal with it in the village office.

Discussing the electrical aggregation.

Discussing how successful Summer Fest was. Tami thanking Debbie, Ashley and public works for all their work on Summer Fest.

There’s a big bike group that will be using the rail trail Thursday. I think this is the same group that will be in Monticello Wednesday and it’s supposed to be around 100 bikers. #watchoutforbikers #benice

They are going into closed session to discuss personnel with no action after the closed session.
