4 questions with Katie Creates

Tell me about your business.
I am an acrylic pour artist. I start by pouring paint onto canvas to make paintings, and I then use the excess paint that flows over to make jewelry. I sell acrylic pour necklaces, earrings, keychains, magnets, bookmarks, bracelets, and paintings.

What inspired you to create your business?
I started making acrylic pour art just for fun. But as my art improved, I decided to sell magnets and bookmarks to fundraise for the creation of a STEM center at the Homer Community Library. As I continued creating, I was running out of storage room, so I decided to start selling at my local farmers’ market. Things really grew from there and I started going to larger events. My business both supports the library’s STEM center as well as my college career.

What do you like about festivals?
. My favorite part about attending festivals is talking with the people there. I enjoy explaining my process for creating specific paintings and items. I also get a lot of good suggestions for future projects and items.

What is your favorite fair food?
My favorite fair food is definitely the funnel cake!
