No threat to school found after reported incident

District #169 Superintendent Todd Pence is encouraging parents to remind their children that if they see or hear something suspicious at school to tell an adult.

The reminder comes after an incident Friday where it was reported to a teacher that a middle school student made a threat towards the school. The student was in attendance at the school at the time of the threat.

The teacher immediately reported that threat to the administration, Pence said.

The district notified School Resource Officer Shawn Hallett. An investigation occurred and it was determined that students were safe to continue throughout their school day, as usual, Pence said.

“The safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority,” Pence said. “We are committed to taking all threats seriously, and we will continue to work with Officer Hallett and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office to always keep our schools safe.”
