Village Board to discuss ‘Our Town’ segment

The St. Joseph Village Board will be discussing whether or not to support an Our Town segment on WCIA scheduled for August tonight during its regularly scheduled meeting.

Mayor Tami Fruhling-Voges said she wanted to discuss the way WCIA handled the murder of Champaign Police Officer Chris Oberheim before any decisions were made.

“I’m frustrated that WCIA has not made a true apology at this point,” she said. “But I think we need to evaluate the overall situation for the community.”

The segments showcase the town, residents and businesses. On Fridays, WCIA sends a crew to the town they have featured throughout the week. The village usually holds a downtown festival with inflatables and vendors during the Friday event.

Trustee Jim Wagner said he thought the village should not support the segment.

Wagner said the village has numerous police officers as residents and he wanted to make sure the village was supporting them during this time.

Anyone with opinions on the matter can attend the village board meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at village hall or email Tasmetzer@gmail.com.
